How to Bake a Smoked Ham

Smoked ham is only a simple ingredient, but it can be transformed easily into something very delicious. Ingredients and Materials

Before you can bake a smoked ham, you first need to gather several easy-to-find materials and ingredients. As much as possible, prepare a meat thermometer, aluminum foil and roasting pan. More importantly, do not forget to buy a pack of high quality smoked ham from your local grocery store, preferably one that weighs around 4-pounds. Once you have these things, you are good to go and start doing the following steps and procedures.


Take the wrapper off the ham. If it comes with a glazing packet, lay it aside first for later use. It is good if you can find a specific product that is seasoned with spiced brine and sugar already. Having this actually eliminates the need for glazing. Set the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. While it starts to heat up, put a rack at the bottom or the shelf next to the bottom.

Get the roasting pan and then put the ham inside. Put the cut-side of the ham in a downward position. After that, put aluminum foil loosely on top of the meat. If you have a 4-pound ham, heat each pound for eight minutes, which means that you have to heat the meat for 32 minutes. Check its temperature using the meat thermometer. If the temperature of the ham reaches 120 degrees Fahrenheit, it is done already.

During the final 20 minutes of the baking process, you can now remove the foil. If the ham comes with a glazing packet, put some of the meat. Set the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and then place the ham inside once again. Let the glaze bubble and heat up in order to achieve a richer taste and flavor. After baking the ham, do not serve it right away to guests. Instead, allow it to cool down first for at least 10 minutes. Serve and enjoy the delightful goodness of baked smoked ham.

Additional Tips and Other Helpful Information

Before serving, it is good to place the ham inside the refrigerator for up to four long weeks. Aside from serving it fresh from the oven, you can also serve it cold.
